It’s already mid-June and I’m overwhelmed with shoulds and musts. Some of these are non-negotiable and some are from a notion of who I ought to be as a person and published author. I am in awe of writers who can balance their professional and creative lives with family, work, health, and quiet escape. I am horrible at this and my beginning of the year promise to myself to be self centered is foundering on the shore of “this is more important than me.” I think I need an accountability partner for a balanced life. #authors18 #authors18june

Early morning author confession. Before The Song Of All, I wrote four other manuscripts: a regency paranormal novella, chicfic, memoir, & historical fiction. TSOA was the first manuscript I wrote that I felt compelled to finish and get published. I say this to point out that a debut novel is not necessarily the first novel an author has written and to underscore that just because a piece is not published doesn’t lessen its value in terms of learning, satisfaction, and joy in telling a story. If you write, you are a writer. Full stop. #authors18 #authors18june

Day 1 Of #authors18
Path to Publication: how long it took to go from dream to reality.
I started writing #TheSongOfAll in 2009. I began querying agents in the Fall Of 2015. It took 5 months and about 18 rejections until I signed with @mogottlieb of @trident_media in 2016. It was 3 months from agent to 3 book deal with @nightshadebooks and @skyhorsepub and then 21 months to go from deal to shelf. For me the process has been a lesson in perseverance and positivity.
